Vote in the Italian Senate over the civil union law

President of Party of European Socialists Sergei Stanishev welcomed the vote from last night in the Italian Senate over the civil union law: “The Civil Unions Law is a milestone in Italian history, it is the fulfillment of a promise for thousands of Italians. I would like to emphasize the good work that Partito Democratico has done in securing the approval of this law. This is a great success to be proud of. Courage has won against fear, respect has beaten discrimination.”

Woman and Minority Refugees – conference in Istanbul

IMG_1900Rainbow Rose co-organized the “Woman and Minority Refugees Conference” under the leadership of the Global Progressive Forum.  This was our first event of this year: Women and Minority Refugees: another perspective to the crisis, co-organized with GPF, YES, PES Women and FEPS, which took place on February 18-19 in Istanbul, Turkey.

General Assembly 2015

The last General Assembly of Rainbow Rose took place in Berlin in ga_rrNovember 2015. Over 40 people from all over Europe were there. Besides discussion on the future of our organisation and our priorities, a new board was elected for 2 years.

Board meeting in Gentrr_gent

In early January the board met for the first time physically for a working weekend in Gent, Belgium. We planned work, events and actions for 2016. It was an important time to talk about our strategies and how to reinforce our links with our member structures. It was also an excellent opportunity to get to know each other better!

EuroPride in Amsterdam

From 1st to 7th of August EuroPride is being held in Amsterdam. Rainbow Rose will participate from 5-7th of August together with europrpideour sister organisation from the Netherlands (Roze Netwerk PvdA). European Commission publishes List of Actions to advance LGBTI equality

The Commission is committed to combat discrimination on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity.

On December 2015 European Commissioner Jourová presented the Commission’s List of Actions to advance LGBTI equality to be implemented during the period 2016-2019. It is a good step but it is not as comprehensive as the LGBT Roadmap we have been calling for. Rainbow Rose will keep monitoring this strategy.

Italian parliament to vote for a law on registering same-sex partnership

Many S&D members of Italian parlament ar supporting the new law proposal. Also a demonstartion on behalf of the law was arranged in 23rd of January. Read our full press release here.

Adoption: The socialists and the left mobilised for equality in Portugal!

On 10 February, the Portuguese Republic’s Assembly has confirmed amendments to the civil code proposed by the Socialist Party (member of PES) and the other parliamentary left-wing parties. HOMOSEXUALES--620x349Portugal becomes the 13th country in Europe to allow same-sex couples to jointly adopt children, and partners in same-sex couples to adopt their spouse’s children. Event: LGBTI Refugees – another perspective to the crisis

Rainbow Rose is happy to co-organise with GPF, YES, PES Women and FEPS, : LGBTI Refugees: another perspective to the crisis, which will take place on February 18-19 in Istanbul, Turkey. Politicians, Turkish civil society, NGOs, Academics and Officials will seat together to discuss how to address the refugees’ situation.

Upcoming Events

26 Feb: Bea from our board will be attending a conference organized by the UK LGBT Labour on the Brexit in Liverpool: Europe and the fight for LGBT equality in Liverpool. It will be an opportunity to add the LGBT European perspective in the current debates.

RR presentation to S&D group

On January 28th 2014, Aurélien MAZUY (President of Rainbow Rose) presented the network in the European Parliament to all the group of the S&D. This presentation took place after a debate on Lunacek’s report asking for a LGBTI roadmap at European level. MEPs from the group were very enthousiastic about the relaunch of the network and are keen on making LGBT rights a core value to defend.
